One thing to note though is that with a snap on type of case, you may have issues putting it on. This battery is slightly larger than the one the phone came with. My way around that was to just remove the case cover and use the case to hold the battery in place instead. That’s not really an inconvenience though.

And it doesn’t matter if the actual ripped file has 01.., 02.., 03.. prefixing the filename; it’ll just ignore that!! It has to be done inside the file’s MP3 data, or within Windows Media Player’s “Advanced Tag Editor” (the pop-up menu you get when you Right-click a file name). Very time-consuming.

Maybe I just missed the easy fix for this, but I have searched and searched and searched, and other than manually changing all the ID tags, you’re just out of luck. Sadly, One Star removed for this bungle on Samsung’s part.

Otherwise, an excellent phone with a great look and feel and functionality.

Pros:

*Keyboard is larger than many other texting phones, which makes it easy for my husband, who has larger fingers than me, to text with ease on his matching phone

*Numbers have their own designated keys on the top of the keyboard instead of a three line QWERTY with shared keys for numbers. I find that to be a huge plus.

*Quick text button to take you directly into a new text message screen

*favorites key to quickly access your favorite people

*large numbers on the front of the phone

*contacts button gets you directly into your contacts without going thru the menu

*auto lock that requires hitting OK twice to unlock so you don’t pocket dial, although it’s not 100% foolproof

*nice amount of internal memory for pics and videos

*Sleek looking design

*Easy to flip open and shut with your thumb

*voice command button. hit this button and say “call mom” and it takes you there. If it doesn’t understand, or you have two similar people, like “mom” and “mon” it will ask you first by voice whom to call

*Nice battery life, although this might be slightly subjective to your personal device. My battery lasts way longer than my husband’s. I can usually go 4-5 days with moderate or more use before i have to think about recharging. In the beginning i used to get a full week, recharging every Saturday night, but i text much more now than i used to.

On the other hand there are some definite cons:

*the video quality is poor. The picture is very dark. the video icons are not so dark, but once you start the video, you see the lighting drop. However, i have a video camera and video mode on my real camera, so this is not a dealbreaker for me.

*someone mentioned the spontaneous shutoff. I did have this problem on occasion. It seems to go in clusters, like one week it would shut off a few times, but then i could go weeks and weeks without it happening again. It never happened to me during a conversation, more like i’d be at work and i’d pick up my phone to check for messaged and it would be off. My husband does not have this issue, and i polled my family and friends who have this phone. It seems like it happens so some and not to others, less than 30%, but that should not happen to anyone. this is where i took away the stars.

So that’s basically it. Generally speaking i am very happy with this phone, as you can see my pros far outnumber the cons. However, that second con is a biggie. Maybe you will get lucky and not have that issue. Maybe they have fixed it by now. I got mine in early July 2009, so they must be on a later manufacturing run, and hopefully that will cease to be a problem. good luck!

Apparent Quirks (if there are workarounds, please Comment):

Speakerphone:

(a) Phone must be opened to use the speakerphone? Sometimes, if I *voice* dial with it closed, the voice seems louder than if I speed- or finger-dialed.

(b) No volume control (other than on/off)?

Calendar:

(a) Again, phone must be opened to use it.

(b) When phone is closed, the calendar alert flashes on the external screen but only tells you to open the phone for details. Very annoying!

(c) I entered 3 events for October (all starting with “Gig”). When I search for “Gig” they display in the following order: 10/10, 10/31, 10/16 (yes, the years are all 2009). This is not a deal breaker, but very peculiar.

So those are some things I think should be different. I use a phone primarily for talking, calendar management, and checking e-mail. You could probably do better than this phone for those purposes. Might be fine for heavy texters and others who wouldn’t mind having the phone open most of the time. YMMV.
